Neurotoxins are one of the most effective tools in aesthetic medicine when done right. At HoneMD, we use them to smooth dynamic lines, enhance facial symmetry, and create subtle, natural results that work in harmony with your features.
In this guide, we’re breaking down what neurotoxins actually do, the areas we treat, how many units are typically used, what to expect before and after your appointment, and what makes each brand different.
At HoneMD, we approach neurotoxins with intention. There is no one size fits all approach. Just subtle, strategic tweaks that keep people guessing why you look so good. Whether you are just getting started or refining your routine, here is everything you need to know.
What Are Neurotoxins?
In simple terms, neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Letybo temporarily relax the muscles that cause expression lines such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases. By calming those muscles, the skin above them smooths out, creating a rested, refreshed appearance that still looks like you.
But the best results do not come from the product alone. They come from knowing where and how to use it. That is why our providers focus on precision, balance, and facial harmony for every treatment.
Common Areas We Treat
Some of the most popular treatment areas include the forehead, where we soften horizontal lines and gently lift the brow, and the glabella, those vertical lines between your eyebrows. Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes are also a frequent target for clients who want a more open, awake look.
Other areas we treat include bunny lines on the nose, chin dimpling, and the muscles around the mouth to lift downturned corners or soften marionette lines. We also offer advanced treatments like masseter slimming for jaw tension or facial contouring, platysmal band softening in the neck, and trapezius slimming to create a longer looking neckline and refined shoulder profile.
Every face is different. That is why we assess your facial movement, muscle strength, and goals before customizing your treatment plan. Some clients want barely there tweaks. Others are managing tension, aging, or symmetry. Whatever your focus, the goal is always balance and effortlessness.
What to Expect During Treatment
Your appointment will likely take 30 minutes from start to finish. We will begin with a consultation to discuss your goals and map out your treatment plan. The injections themselves are done using extremely fine needles and feel like small pinches. Most clients do not require numbing.
You can expect to start seeing results in 3 to 5 days, with full results in about 10 to 14 days. The effects typically last around 3 to 4 months, depending on the area treated and how your body metabolizes the product.
How Many Units Will You Need?
The number of units needed varies depending on the treatment area, your facial anatomy, and your desired outcome. For example, forehead treatments may use 10 to 30 units, glabella lines around 15 to 25 units, and crow’s feet between 12 and 20 units. More muscle heavy areas like the masseter or platysmal bands usually require more product.
Our approach is always measured. More units do not automatically mean better results. It is about using the right amount in the right places.
Understanding the Brands: What Makes Them Different?
There are currently five FDA-approved neurotoxins available in the U.S.: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Letybo. While they all work by relaxing targeted facial muscles to smooth lines and soften expression, each one has unique characteristics that set it apart.
Botox is the most established and widely recognized. It provides reliable, consistent results and works well across a variety of treatment areas.
Dysport tends to act a little faster and spreads more broadly, which can make it a good option for treating larger areas like the forehead or masseter muscles.
Xeomin has a purified formula that contains no accessory proteins. It is often chosen by clients who prefer fewer ingredients or are concerned about developing resistance over time.
Jeuveau was developed specifically for cosmetic use and is very similar to Botox in its performance. It is sometimes favored for the glabella area between the brows, offering a smooth, refined finish.
Letybo is the newest FDA-approved option in the U.S., already well known in other countries. It is known for its gentle feel and soft, natural looking results, with a controlled spread and even application.
Each of these products has its own strengths. We will help you choose the best one based on your anatomy, goals, and how your body responds.
Preparing for Your Appointment
To help minimize bruising and optimize your results, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E for 24 to 48 hours before treatment, unless prescribed. Come in with a clean face and try to stay well hydrated and rested.
Aftercare
Keep it simple. Avoid rubbing or massaging the area for the first 24 hours. Stay upright for at least four hours, and skip intense workouts, saunas, facials, or massages. Do not apply heavy makeup over the treated areas that day, and avoid alcohol.
It is normal to have some mild redness or swelling at the injection sites. This typically fades within a few hours.
