The lip flip is a subtle, non-surgical treatment that uses a small dose of neurotoxin to enhance the shape and visible volume of the upper lip - without filler. By relaxing the muscle that pulls the upper lip down and inward (the orbicularis oris), the lip rolls slightly outward, revealing more of the natural pink lip surface. The HoneMD approach

Lip flip is dose-critical. Too much and the upper lip won't seal properly (drinking from straws, pronouncing certain consonants becomes difficult for 1–2 weeks). Too little and you see no effect. Our nurse-practitioner injectors use 2–4 units placed at strategic points along the upper lip border (vermillion). The result is a subtle outward roll that looks like fuller lips, not paralyzed lips. We also assess for gummy smile - if you show excessive upper gum when you smile, a small dose into the levator labii corrects that simultaneously.

What to expect

Consultation (5–10 min): upper-lip movement assessment, smile-line photography, gummy-smile evaluation.

Treatment (under 5 min): 4 tiny injection points along the upper-lip border. Fine needle, optional topical numbing.

How is a lip flip different from lip filler?
Lip flip uses neurotoxin to roll the lip outward, lasts 8–12 weeks, costs less. Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid to add actual volume, lasts 6–12 months, costs more. Lip flip is the subtle option; lip filler is the longer-lasting one. Many clients do both.

How long does a lip flip last?

Will I be able to drink from a straw / pronounce words normally?
With our conservative dose, yes. Excessive dose can affect lip seal (straw difficulty, some consonants) for 1–2 weeks - which is why we use 2–4 units, not 6+.

Will it help my gummy smile?
Often yes. If your upper lip lifts so high that excessive gum shows when you smile, a small additional dose in the levator labii reduces the lift and corrects gummy smile. We assess this during consultation.

Can I combine with lip filler?
Yes - the most popular lip combo we do. The flip enhances the shape and edge, the filler adds volume and definition. Many clients do them in the same appointment.

Does it hurt?
The lips are sensitive but the needle is very fine and the injections are quick. Optional topical numbing for those who prefer it. Most clients describe brief pinches.

Will my lips look bigger or just different?
Different in a fuller-looking way. The lip itself isn't bigger - you're simply seeing more of it because it rolls outward. Photos consistently show a more even smile and a more present upper lip.
