About filler rehab at HoneMD

Filler rehab - also called filler dissolving - is a fast, safe, and effective treatment for removing unwanted, migrated, over-filled, or poorly placed hyaluronic acid filler. Using a small injection of hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid), our injectors dissolve filler at the target site in minutes. Most patients see substantial change within 24–48 hours.

At HoneMD - serving Torrance and Huntington Beach - filler rehab is one of our most-requested correction treatments. The aesthetic industry has spent the last decade aggressively under-correcting bad filler outcomes; we built filler rehab as a deliberate specialty because too many clients arrive at our consultations feeling stuck with results they regret. You're not stuck. Hyaluronic acid is reversible. That's the entire reason it's the safest filler category.

Who this treatment is for

  • You have filler that migrated outside the intended treatment area (very common with lip filler that drifts above the lip border)
  • You feel over-filled, puffy, or "pillow-faced" and want to reset
  • You had filler placed at another provider and you don't like the result
  • You have asymmetric filler results (one side fuller than the other)
  • You have lumps, nodules, or palpable filler that hasn't integrated
  • You're planning future filler work and want to start with a clean slate
  • You have a rare vascular complication (filler accidentally placed in or near a blood vessel) - this is a P0 emergency and we treat same-day

The HoneMD approach

Filler dissolving is technique-critical. Hyaluronidase doesn't only dissolve filler - it also breaks down your body's native hyaluronic acid in the surrounding tissue. Too much enzyme in the wrong place can flatten the area beyond filler removal. Our nurse-practitioner injectors dose conservatively, target precisely (often using ultrasound visualization for migrated filler), and prefer multiple smaller sessions over one aggressive dissolve when re-shaping is the goal rather than complete removal.

We also do consultation-first. Many clients who come in for full dissolve actually need only partial correction - dissolving a specific zone of migration while preserving the rest of their filler work. We assess what's actually wrong before recommending what to dissolve.

Benefits

  • Reverses unwanted filler results within 24–48 hours
  • Corrects migrated, over-filled, lumpy, or asymmetric filler
  • Restores natural facial proportions and expression
  • Allows a fresh start before new filler work
  • Emergency vascular-occlusion treatment (P0 same-day)
  • Quick, in-office, no downtime

Pricing

From $299 per session for new clients. Pricing depends on volume to dissolve and number of zones. Small targeted corrections (e.g., lip filler migration above the vermillion border) often complete in one session; large-volume dissolves typically take 2–3 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart. We confirm scope and price before treatment begins. Know the plan. Know the price.

What to expect

Consultation (20 min): assessment of where filler is, where it should not be, photography from multiple angles, palpation. We map a dissolve plan that targets only what's wrong.

Treatment (15–20 min): small injections of hyaluronidase at target points. Fine needle. Topical numbing optional.

24–48 hours: visible change as the enzyme dissolves the filler.

2 weeks: final result settles. Swelling fully resolves. We invite a complimentary follow-up to assess whether additional dissolve is needed.

New filler planning: we recommend waiting 2–4 weeks after final dissolve before placing fresh filler. Lets the tissue fully reset.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Hyaluronidase breaks down both injected HA and a small amount of native HA in the tissue. With conservative dosing, the impact on native tissue is minimal and recovers within weeks as your body produces new HA. Aggressive over-dissolving can flatten an area temporarily - which is why we dose carefully.
Visible change within 24–48 hours. Most patients see substantial reversal at the 48-hour mark.
Yes - this is actually our preferred approach for most cases. Targeted dissolve of a problem zone (e.g., lip filler that migrated above the vermillion) while preserving the filler that's still working well.
Hyaluronidase only dissolves hyaluronic acid filler (Juvederm or Restylane, Belotero families). It does NOT dissolve non-HA fillers like Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid), Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite), or permanent fillers like silicone. We assess what's been placed during consultation.
2–4 weeks after final dissolve. Lets tissue fully reset and ensures any residual enzyme has cleared.
Yes when performed by an experienced injector. Hyaluronidase has been used safely in aesthetics for over 20 years. Reversibility is the entire reason hyaluronic acid is considered the safest filler category. The main risk is allergic reaction (rare, <1%) - we screen for this in consultation.
If you have Sculptra, Radiesse, or permanent filler placed elsewhere, hyaluronidase won't dissolve it. Treatment options are limited and depend on filler type. We'll discuss honestly during consultation.
Yes - for vascular occlusion or any concerning symptom (blanching, severe pain, vision changes) call us immediately. These are P0 emergencies and we treat same-day. This is the most important reason to use HA filler over permanent alternatives.
