Marionette Lines

Your provider will assess your facial structure and expression to determine whether filler, neurotoxin, or a combination of both is best suited for your marionette lines.

Filler for marionette lines adds volume and structure to soften the crease, typically using a hyaluronic acid-based product injected with a needle or cannula.

Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, or Jeuveau® may be injected into the depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle, which pulls the corners of the mouth downward. Relaxing this muscle helps lift the area for a more refreshed appearance.

Both treatments can be performed in the same session for a more comprehensive result.

• Treatment time: 20–30 minutes
• Results from filler: Immediate, with final settling in 5–7 days
• Results from neurotoxin: Start in 3–5 days, peak in 10–14 days

Longevity:

• Neurotoxin: 3–4 months
• Filler: 9–12 months

Mild to moderate. We use numbing cream and fillers with lidocaine for comfort. You may feel light pressure or pinching, especially if a cannula is used. Most clients tolerate the treatment very well.

There is minimal downtime. You may experience swelling, redness, or light bruising that fades within a few days. Avoiding alcohol and exercise 24–48 hours post-treatment helps minimize these effects.

Aftercare

• Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the area for 24 hours
• Stay upright for at least 4 hours post-injection
• Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, or heat exposure for 1–2 days
• No facials, dental work, or lasers near the area for 1–2 weeks
• Use cold compresses if needed for swelling

The lines that run from the mouth to the chin will appear softer, smoother, and less pronounced. The corners of the mouth are gently lifted, creating a more neutral or slightly upturned expression. With regular treatments, results build over time and help prevent further deepening of marionette lines.

• Filler: Usually 0.5–1 syringe per side, depending on depth and skin laxity
• Neurotoxin: Typically 4–6 units per side for DAO muscle relaxation
